| NOVEMBER 2007
Yes, we have been quiet over the summer and it felt as if we needed a breather after an action packed series of top releases, from Sokolov EP via "Perestroika" culminating with highly aclamed "Sure Shock" by NineLives The Cat. But believe you us it is all for a very good reason indeed.
Sokolov Sounds is now ready to proudly anounce its new signing mr.elastik!
Also look out for our storming roster of releases by the usual suspects Vlad and the rest of the Sokolov crew, all heading your way in months to come.
First up, a super package "Justice" by mr.elastik! This gem has been caned by the Klaxons since the begining of the year from various dancefloors all the way to Annie Nightingale and Annie Mac shows, and it is finaly ready for the official release. Naturally we at Sokolov HQ's have decided to add more of the icing on the cake by comissioning few of the highest profile remixes, and that, medears, is going to be kept as a top secret just for a tad longer untill the whole package is ready to be unleashed, so DO watch this space!

Vlad Sokolov Vs Diverted / Sokolov EP Part 2
Bananamy is the result of a collaboration between Vlad & Diverted but I would hazard a guess this tune was sculptured in the Diverted laboratories as the trademark Diverted beats punch out the rhythm section. The initial drop-out works-out where to position a dark techno-lord riff that filters as other acid leads join the onslaught. By the mid drop-out Bananamy has metamorphosed into techno but the introduction of some tasty drum programming stamps the breakbeat seal of approval. As with most Sokolov releases this is uber-cool-tech-dirt of the highest standard.
But my favourite is Plain n Simple on the flip that sees Diverted going solo. No huge drop, big slam, lets kick the front door in style breaks formula here, oh no! Plain n Simple cruises threw the front door with a swagger and says, “Hi. Welcome to the dirty bassline.” The riff in Plain n Simple has been crafted to perfection ensuring that it immediately catches anyone’s attention within speaker range as it loops and loops with the effect of building to a monstrous crescendo till everything drops-out to a minimal tech breaks play-out. This is Diverted at their best |

| Prestroika - mixed by vlad sokolov
“Unless you’re a devout
follower of breakbeat, the name Vlad Sokolov may well mean nothing to
you. But if there is any justice in the world, things are about to
change. An underground player since the early ‘90s, if there
is anything Vlad doesn’t know about the break scene, it
ain’t worth knowing – as is proved by his mighty
mix CD showcasing some the finest moments from his label Sokolov
Sounds. From his own guitar drenched opener “Secret
Silver” through to the medley of crunched up Diverted
numbers, “Perestroika” is a thrill-a-minute journey
through the housier, techier side of breakbeat with dollops of funk and
darkness liberally splashed throughout. Sokolov Sounds have barely
reached their 10th release, so not only does this stand as a great
testament to their success so far but it works as a perfect
introduction to what this awesome imprint offers.”

Vlad
Sokolov
Vlad Sokolov / Secret Silver / Big
Monkey / Sokolov
Tech funk label, Sokolov, celebrate their
10th release.
Label boss Vlad drops two of his own
productions with the help of Chris Carter on guitar for Secret Silver.
Many of you I’m sure have heard Chris Carter’s
distortion pedal antics on the Roxiller projects, or maybe
you’ve heard his slick grooves with the TCR Allstars. Well
here Chris demonstrates his versatility by jamming a seventies New York
car-chase-groove that Samuel J Jackson would be proud to be a part of.
Think Theme From Shaft beefed up with some stylish synth riffs, rolling
hats and vocal edits. Very pimping!
Flip for Big Monkey offering a peak-time
dynamic assault complete with whip-cracking beats, naughty riffs and
sonic induced madness.
This release is very special,
don’t miss.
