NEL-J STARTED HIS DJ CAREER AS PART OF A NORTHERN BREAKING CREW AND CUT HIS TEETH BEHIND THE DECKS AT MANY B-BOY BATTLES. HEAVILY INFLUENCED BY EARLY ELECTRO AND HIP-HOP HE EMBRACED THE HOUSE MUSIC ERA WITH A MORE FUNKIER SET THAN MOST, PLAYING TO CROWDS ALL OVER THE NORTH OF ENGLAND. AFTER TEAMING UP WITH AN EX-MEMBER OF 808 STATE NEL STARTED A PRODUCTION TEAM AND PRODUCED HOUSE AND HIP-HOP RECORDS FOR HOST OF MAJORS, EVEN SHOWCASING THE NEW MUSIC SEMINAR IN NYC WITH GANGSTARR AND JERU. AS THE UGLIER HALF OF THE DJ DUO 'PROPERFREAKS' NEL HAS PLAYED MANY LONDON CLUB-NIGHTS INCLUDING CHUNK, CONTRAFLOW AND !MPOSTER. Ed-C musical influences were grounded in the early ninties grunge scene, but it was when he moved to bristol for 3 years in 96 that he became influenced by the way of the bass line with the explosion of the late ninties drum and bass scene.. it was here that he started to dabble in production and djing.. and upon moving back to london concieved the now legendary !mposter night, putting underground party vibes back on the map in east london. As the uncoordinated half of the proper freaks, he has held down residencies at the bug bar (contraflow), rhythm factory (chunk), playing alongside all the scenes major players. As a result Ed has been Dj-ing all over london since and is currently resident at the 333's the lab. For the last 2 years he has been hidden away locking down the production skills, ready to unleash the !mposter sound on the masses in 2006.
